What Makes a Man Run?
People
can't understand why a man runs. They don't see any sport
in it. Argue it lacks the sight and thrill of body
contact.
Yet, the conflict is there, more raw and challenging than any man versus man
competition.
For in running it is man against himself, the cruelest of opponents.
The other runners are not the real enemies. His
adversary lies within him, in his ability, with brain and heart
to master himself and his emotions.

Louis
Vazquez, Jr.
“Mr. HS Track and Field”
Long time Armory mainstay takes
position at Randall's Island.
He
will remain with The Armory on a consulting basis, though in exactly what role

From running to coaching to managing meets, ages young and old, Lou Vazquez has
been an inspiration to all. What he has done for track and field can never be
measured. Please join us at The Armory in thanking Lou for years of service and
wishing him good luck with his new position. We look forward to seeing him
and his familiar blue shirt back
on the track this winter.

What a
week for NY HS Track
Suffern girls dominate
Cool
weather and a lot of rain spoiled a lot of athletic
matches across NY State but the NY State distance
runners had it pretty good. Along with amazing
4x800's at the Warwick fast Times meet as well as
the Section 2 State Qualifier, HS teams at Icahn
Stadium and Iona Prep performed exceptionally well.
Suffern girls broke the National record in 4xmile relay with 19:56.75 run at Boys
Eastern states four days after running 8:51.0 the 4x800m at Warwick
Valley HS, missing the National record by less than a second.
Suffern won the indoor National title in the DMR (missing
the National
record by a few tenths) and 4x800m as well as the Penn Relays title
and have cemented themselves as one of the best relay teams in US
history.
