JUNE 10 - Today at Van Cortlandt Park, Dr.
Norb Sander, President of the Armory Foundation, Ed Bowes, Meet
Director and Brendan Murray, Sports Promotions of
New Balance
announced that New
Balance will be the Title Sponsor of this year's
Manhattan High School X-C Invitational on October 8, 2005 on
this most hallowed of all courses in America. "The Armory is
committed to the development of track and field and cross
country especially at the high school level" Sander said "and
partnering with New Balance will bring the great Manhattan meet
to a new and exciting level."
Ed Bowes, Founder and Meet Director of the
Manhattan Invitational in its 33rd year noted "we remain the
biggest and in our estimation, the best one day high school
distance race in the US, with last year welcoming over 11,200
cross country runners from coast to coast. This year's New
Balance sponsorship will help to improve greatly our
presentation, timing, awards and hospitality."
Brendan Murray of New Balance said "we are
proud to be part of an event with such long standing tradition
that showcases the sport of high school cross country and bring
together schools from all across America."
The Armory Foundation, which has signed a
multi-year agreement with Ed Bowes to present and market the

was so impressive as their "A" team ran 9:00.2, their "B" team
ran 9:15, and their "C" team ran 9:39.
Blood and Lane
again....
Nicole Blood and
Caitlin Lane ran in the open mile race. Blood set the pace
and a quick one at that with her 2:16 1/2 mile split. She
crossed the line in a meet record 4:48 with Lane at 4:58.
Warwick-Farrell
boys 4x8
7:53 to 7:55 with
Warwick anchor coming from behind. Tappan Zee finished 3rd
in 7:59 with John Jay 4th in 8:00.4. Somers finished 5th
at 8:04.0 (sans Viglione due to a stress fracture). Somers
junior Alex Bean anchored the relay with a 1:52.8 split.

26-year old mark of 32:52.5. Across the country in Eugene,
Oregon, freshman Galen Rupp does the same with his 28:15.52,
breaking Rudy Chapa's 29 year old record of 28:32.7 he set in
1976 while still in HS.

Michta Sets US Jr. Record
Maria Michta of Nesconset, N.Y.,
set a new US junior record in winning the silver medal at the
2005 Pan American Cup of Race Walking in Lima, Peru. Michta won
the first international championship medal of her career by
finishing in 48 minutes, 3 seconds. It was her second U.S.
record at that distance in the last month, breaking her previous
time of 48:15 set on April 3 in Hauppauge, NY. Mitcha is a

Ages!
Syosset catches Shaker in last
100m to win 4x800 in 7:43.52 to 7:44.82. Shenendehowa was
3rd in 7:52.95. Sean Tully splits 1:51.8 for Syosset,
which is the fastest 800m split by an American prep at Penn
since Alan Webb in 2001.
NY proves something we all know - our distance depth is pretty
impressive.

Michelle Rorke places 18th at Boston
Bronxville, NY
standout Michelle Rorke, who was on the National
Record setting 4xmile in 2002, ran 2:50.10 for the
Boston Marathon to place 18th in the women's race.
Rorke, a junior at Williams College, is pictured on
the left at the US 8K Championships at Icahn
Stadium, where she placed 34th in 28:49.

Tappan Zee's John Hickey won the disc in 166-08
and the shot in 63-10.5 to win one of the MVP
awards. New Rochelle's Lynne Lane won the 100m
in 12.22 and the 200m in 24.72 to win MVP honors.
DAY TWO
Suffern
8th grader Shelby Greaney (left) ran the 1200m leg
on the winning DMR. Greaney was timed under
3:39 and the team time of 12:15.89 set a new meet
record.
Nyack's Dan Wallace
Perriac (below) took control early on and never
looked back as he won in 1:55.40 and led 6 guys
under 2:00.
