In the shot put, the winner was DeAnne Hahn (Brick NJ), who put 46-8 ¼. Miranda Wilson (Fairfield, Calif) did 45-7, Juliana Smith (Marietta Ga) 45-5 ¾. Melissa Kurzdorfer, a ninth-grader from Lancaster, NY, was 4th at 45-1.
Boys
Walter Henning (St. Anthony’s, LI NY) upset the current national leader, Jimmie Pacifico, of Dayton, Ohio, 64-1 ¾ to 62-5 ¾. It was a personal best for Henning. In 3rd was Wesley Wright, of Marietta, Ga., 60-8 ½.
On Sunday Henning and Wright will be two of the participants in the boys’ weight throw. They have the two best performances in the country in that event. Wright has thrown 79-10. Henning broke the national record here in the Armory a few weeks ago, going 86-3 ¾.
