Boys Semis
Kemar Clarke (South Shore, Brooklyn) dominated the semis, winning heat I by a full two tenths in 7.84. William Wynne (Marietta, Ga) and Antoine Lipscomb (Starkville, Miss) ran a dead heat in Heat II in 7.99.
Clarke’s time breaks his own New York state record, set on Friday, and his 55-meter en route time of 7.29 gives him a PSAL record and is second all-time in NY only to Joe Galeano’s 7.22 20 years ago.
Girls Semis
Mayo is also in the hurdles, attempting an implausible final-day triple. She had the fastest time of the day in the semis, winning Heat II in 8.35. Prior to Jacqueline Coward’s great hurdling this indoor season, that time would have been just .02 off the national record.
Ke’Nyia Richardson, of Oakland, Calif., better known as a triplejumper, won Heat I in an excellent 8.38.
Preliminary rounds were held in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles, advancing to Saturday semifinals.
BOYS TRIALS
In the hurdles, William Wynne (Marietta Ga) and Kemar Clarke (South Shore, Brooklyn) led the way, running 7.90 in separate sections. Chris Kinney (Atlanta) ran 7.96, the only other sub-8.00 time.
For Clarke, it was a New York state record, his second of the day. The previous record, 7.92, was run by Saidu Ezike (Port Richmond, Staten Island) in 2003, meaning that Ezike had also lost his PSAL record. Two weeks ago on this track, Ezike, now a junior at Cornell University, won the Ivy League hurdle championships.
GIRLS TRIALS
Lindsay Rowe (Benjamin Cardozo, Queens) had a good race with Ke’Nyia Richardson (Oakland, Calif) to win Heat III of the hurdle preliminaries. They ran 8.41 and 8.50, the fastest times of the day. Rowe was timed at 7.80 en route at the 55-meter mark.
Earlier in the day, Rowe led off Cardozo’s winning sprint medley team.
