Boys Semis
The top eight advanced to Sunday’s finals in all four.
Justin Christian (Atlanta) and Trenton Guy Jr. (West Charlotte NC) won their respective heats in 6.76, setting up a head-to-head final. Terrell Wilks (Hillhouse, New Haven) was the other heat winner, in 6.84. Tyrone Halstead (Welland, Ontario) also ran 6.84, in placing 2nd to Guy.
In an overnight development, the finish photo from Friday’s preliminary round was read, giving Guy an en route time of 6.28 for 55 meters. That gives him an Armory record, .01 better than Wilks ran in last month’s Eastern States.
Boys Trials
The meet was providing en route times at 55 meters, and Clarke was credited with 7.34, exactly equaling Ezike’s PSAL record at that distance as well.
In the morning, Clarke ran 3rd leg on South Shore’s winning shuttle hurdle relay team, which also set a NY mark.
In the dash, Trenton Guy Jr. (West Charlotte, NC) had the fastest time in the first round, 6.74, .03 up on Justin Christian (Atlanta). Terrell Wilks (Hillhouse, New Haven), who broke the Armory 55-meter record at the Eastern States last month, running 6.29, won Heat I in 6.83.
GIRLS SEMIS
The top eight advanced to Sunday’s finals in all four.
The heat winners were Tiffany Townsend (Killeen, Texas) 7.28, Erica Alexander (Friendswood, Texas) 7.41 and Gabby Mayo (Southeast, Raleigh NC) 7.34.
Townsend was timed in 6.78 for 55 meters, taking away the Armory record Mayo had held overnight.
In Heat III, Ashton Purvis, of Oakland, Calif., finished 2nd in 7.49 to break the national freshman record by .01. Later in the day, she broke the same class record in the 200.
GIRLS TRIALS
Three other runners were under 8.70: Californians Vashti Thomas (8.60) and Julian Purvis (8.65) and North Carolinian Gabby Mayo (8.69), who is attempting the hurdle/dash double.
Mayo (Southeast, Raleigh) had the fastest time in the dash preliminaries, running 7.31. She was credited with 6.81 at 55 meters, thereby breaking the Armory record of 6.91 set a year ago by Lynne Lane of New Rochelle.
The dash has a powerhouse field that includes Texans Tiffany Townsend (7.37 in the heats) and Erica Alexander (7.40), Jeneba Tarmoh of Oakland, Calif. (7.42) and Shayla Mahan of Detroit (7.45).
Of local interest, Middle College (Brooklyn) teammates Analisa Austin and Dieddra Rogers both advanced to the semis, running 7.63 and 7.62.
